Ra ja yoga (through Meditation) is , like Modern Science , the experimental way for subjective way of experiencing the Divine (directly).
Ritualistic practices of course help the spiritual growth of the mind , but nobody should continue to remain in the same class/school for whole life.
Like infinite photon in Light,there are infinite universes with galaxies and solar system holding life principles as ours.`universes breeding like rats,` -cosmology. Ramakrishna realised the same truth in `Samadhi `and told it (recorded) in 1883 i.e 3 yrs before Radio Telescope was invented.
Without knowig the `SELF` ( Know Thyself) ,no number of `ja pas` r Ritualism will help you much without` Grace `of the Divine ( prarabdha) .
Spiritual attainment does not depend on length of practices or height of material success or name and fame or even secular power, but the way you live(Dharma) and your power of discrimination.
